7 Plus Mock Exams with Dukes Tutoring

Our mock exams are run the same way as the actual 7 Plus exams, from registration through to dismissal. This allows your child to gain invaluable experience by sitting a timed exam amongst their peers, in a formal environment. Your child will learn better time management skills, and experience less anxiety and stress on the real examination day.

The 7 Plus is very competitive since in any given area there are only a limited number of private independent schools. For certain schools, there may be as many as 10 applicants per place. Since many of these schools are oversubscribed, they rely on the 7 Plus as a criteria for selection, and the 7 Plus entry point is becoming increasingly competitive.

These exams help your child to master their time management and develop their ability to stay calm, even when faced with question types they have not seen before.

After their 7 Plus mock exam, each child’s work is marked, and the results drawn up into an individualised report with detailed recommendations for the next stages of revision and teaching, alongside observational feedback.

If you are looking for one-to-one tuition to help prepare your child, our 7 Plus tutors are experts who are familiar with the requirements for all top prep schools in London and the UK.

The 7 Plus is taken in Year 2 as an entrance exam for independent fee-paying prep schools. The exam period usually runs from November to January in Year 2.

The 7 Plus exam tests Maths and English, with some schools also testing verbal and non-verbal reasoning skills. These tests are usually written, although there may be verbal tests for mental arithmetic, spelling and dictation. It is also becoming more common to have a portion of the exam completed online. Generally, the schools will not test beyond the National Curriculum levels for their age group.

• Realistic exam conditions, so your child knows exactly what to expect
• Actual exam practice in a variety of topics and techniques that are likely to be examined by schools
• A detailed report with crucial insights into your child’s strengths and weaknesses and suggestions for improvement.

During these exams, students are observed carefully. Important information about their demeanour and behaviour is reported back to parents as part of the feedback. Many schools will factor these observations into their selection process for the 7 Plus.

Additional exam practice is invaluable to improve:
– Familiarity with 7 Plus question types
– Time management and exam technique
– Experience of different set of questions
– Confidence levels before the real 7 Plus
– Experience of taking exams in an unfamiliar environment

We hold our 7 Plus mock exams in the teaching spaces in our office in central London throughout the academic year. The mock environment helps pupils to prepare for the real thing when faced with going into a new environment for their real exams.
