Creative Comprehension Course

Creative comprehension is a new section of many 11+ and 13+ entrance exams. Our course introduces this section and provides children with effective techniques to score highly.

This dynamic course emphasises reading, analysing, and extracting information from a wide range of sources commonly used by schools, including images, statistics, graphs, and various texts. Students will learn to establish connections between the presented information and assess the evidence provided, encouraging their critical thinking and analytical skills.

Delivered by one of our experienced education consultants, this course will help your child stand out to selective schools.

We run this course in two ways:

  • 1-1, online, at times of your choosing
  • Group, in person in London, on specific dates in the year. View upcoming dates here.

Creative comprehension questions are designed to test your child’s ability to infer information from a range of sources. They are similar to reading comprehension questions in that they require the student to answer questions and draw conclusions from material supplied during the exam.

Similarly to reading comprehension, text will often be included in the question. On top of the text, however, there will be additional sources such as images, graphs and statistics. Students will need to retrieve information from across all of the sources in order to answer the questions successfully.

Children will work on their deduction, evaluation, and comparison skills as they are asked to analyse various sources and draw logical conclusions. Students will be taught how to respond to a range of materials, including different sources such as pictures, statistics, and various texts, and draw pertinent conclusions about them.

Many schools such as City of London Boys, Dulwich College, Forest, Trinity, Belmont and all 14 schools in the 11+ London Consortium now use Atom Learning’s online tests, which include creative comprehension .
Other schools, including Merchant Taylors and Haberdasher Aske’s School for Girls, have previously included source-based questions – the skills taught in the course will help students confidently answer these questions.
Reading comprehension is also frequently included in 11+ papers, including across all grammar schools and this course strengthens all skills required for these questions.

• Grow creative comprehensive skills so that your child can face exam day with confidence
• Practice questions and types and formats designed to replicate the actual exam
• Learn strategies for effective time and stress management
• Gauge your child’s strengths and weaknesses and note any room for improvement

Our course can be run 1-1 online at a time that suits you with one of our expert education consultants. We also offer the course for in-person group events throughout the year, check our Upcoming Events page for more information.

You can book your child’s place on this course by contacting our friendly team. We will discuss suitable times for your child and arrange the course from there.

Due to popular demand, we now offer an Advanced Creative Comprehension Course, which consolidates and builds upon the skills learned, enabling children to tackle the most challenging question types – ideal for those aiming for the most selective schools.

The Creative Comprehension workshops were incredibly helpful for my daughter and, more importantly, she really enjoyed them. Tania brought the activity to life by making it extremely engaging. She was patient and took time to help my 10 year-old to reflect on the skills that she had learnt. Thank you.
