I have been a private tutor for over 10 years, beginning as a volunteer in a local SEN provision and going on to work with children, young people, and families internationally. I specialise in English and the humanities, from the building blocks of reading to A level. I aim to create a participatory learning environment where students take an active role in shaping their sessions. Through discussion and collaboration, I find students retain more knowledge and develop a stronger sense of ownership over their learning. I place a strong emphasis on critical thinking, whilst also building the study and organisational skills vital to academic success. I am experienced in supporting a wide range of learners, from those who struggle with traditional education to those with high academic enthusiasm. My studies in child development and educational psychology have supported me to develop effective teaching methods across diverse needs. I have also spent significant time working with families on residential tutoring placements, which have provided me with a unique opportunity to deepen my understanding of holistic education. I frequently incorporate creative and play‑based activities into my sessions, particularly with younger learners or those who benefit from multisensory, movement‑based, or imaginative approaches. I speak several languages and have taught English as a foreign language, and enjoy supporting students for whom English is an additional language. I believe that building confidence, self-efficacy and self-esteem is just as valuable as learning the curriculum and my students finish our sessions with confidence, direction, and purpose - for exams and beyond!
