I have over twenty years experience of teaching and department leadership at secondary level, in both the state and private sector, specialising particularly in A Level and upper secondary. I offer personalised, bespoke lessons, based on a holistic approach which involves enabling each individual to succeed. I am always willing to 'meet the students where they are'; with years of form tutor experience, I can understand how one subject fits into their wider lives. I am flexible and experienced enough to offer advice on next steps as required (including UCAS and university admissions tests), and on general learning skills. I am always willing to take extra measures, offering tailored resources and marking. I am a specialist in ADHD and ASD, and understand how neurodivergence can impact performance. As a current Senior Examiner and Team Leader in Philosophy, and with examining experience in a variety of allied subjects at GCSE, A Level and IB Level, I am also an expert in how to achieve at the highest levels in examinations.
Amanda now works as a full time professional tutor, having had more than twenty years in the classroom in top Independent schools. Most recently, she was Head of Religion and Philosophy at St Albans School for four years. Amanda is proud to have a good holistic understanding of the UK examinations system, including at A Level, Pearson International A Level/GCSE, and IB, as a teacher and examiner. Her knowledge of examination specifications is up to date and she works to keep her subject knowledge relevant, for instance by pursuing further study. As well as various appointments in the state sector, including at a Sixth Form College, she has held teaching responsibilities at Haberdashers' School for Girls, St Albans School, and St Francis College.
