I have been a primary school teacher since 2013 and I specialise in teaching English and maths, up to GCSE level. Although I teach in a state primary school, I tutor students across a wide range of private sector schools and have plenty of experience in preparing students for 11+, 13+ and GCSE assessments. I am often praised for my patience and understanding with students, having worked with SEN students and pride myself in adopting an inclusive approach, tailored to each student. One of my proven strengths has been to set high expectations which simultaneously motivate and challenge pupils to reach their absolute potential. I have accomplished this by establishing a safe learning environment that promotes equal opportunities and highlights the importance of mutual respect in which children must practice between themselves and their tutors alike. I have a strong ability to make accurate and productive use of assessments. I regularly assess children’s work against national benchmarks and provide pupils with individual targets and strategies for support and guidance. I believe that verbal communication plays a crucial role in education and I use every opportunity to implement this as a tool for learning during teaching and as a formative means of assessment. The evaluative feedback I have received renders this methodology as one of my most successful strategies for improving levels of achievement. I have therefore acknowledged this as a fundamental two way process linked to successful learning in providing the opportunity for children to self-assess and set targets for future progress. My teaching experience has taught me the important value of a positive attitude and a calm approach; such dynamic characteristics are necessary in achieving deserved respect as a teacher and role model for the children.
