Ivan

I have been tutoring for over eight years, including experience teaching full time at International Scholars Tuition School in Hong Kong. I graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2014 with an MSci in Natural Sciences, specialising in Chemistry and Chemical Biology. I take a holistic approach to teaching, encouraging students to make connections between Biology, Chemistry and Physics rather than treating each topic in isolation. I focus on developing a deep understanding of concepts and, particularly with older students, on applying knowledge to unfamiliar problems. My aim is to help students become confident and independent learners who can approach challenging questions systematically, whether they are preparing for examinations, entrance tests or university applications. For Oxbridge applicants in biological and chemical sciences, I have developed an extensive bank of interview style questions designed around unfamiliar problems and concepts, helping students become comfortable thinking aloud and explaining their reasoning. I am equally comfortable working with students who need to build confidence in the fundamentals and those looking for more challenging material. I also have extensive experience teaching students for whom English is a second language.
