Helping children to become confident, independent learners is the most rewarding part of my role as a tutor. I love the personalised nature of tutoring and getting to know my students so that lessons are tailored to each child’s individual needs. My lessons are interactive and engaging, using a variety of tasks, games and strategies to help children make rapid progress. As independent practice is crucial to progress, I set homework that both challenges children and gives them the opportunity to consolidate the skills taught during lessons. I also help children to develop strong, independent study habits that will serve them as lifelong, transferable skills. English is my specialism, and I am passionate about reading and children’s literature. I believe that reading widely is invaluable, not only for developing vocabulary, comprehension and writing skills, but also for nurturing children’s imagination, curiosity and understanding of the world. I aim to share this enthusiasm with my pupils and help them develop confidence and enjoyment as readers.

Experience

Jacqueline is an enthusiastic, experienced and creative teacher who can personalise learning and engage students at all levels. She has taught across the primary age range from ages 3-11 since 2003 and spent ten years in a variety of senior roles, including Curriculum Advisor, Deputy Headteacher and Acting Headteacher. While she is experienced at teaching across all subject areas in EYFS, KS1 and KS2, her passion and specialism is teaching English. Jacqueline gained her Master's in Education in 2019, graduating with a Distinction. Her academic interests include reading and identity. Since leaving full-time teaching, she has worked in Teacher Education, previously at London Metropolitan University and, currently, at Brunel University and The Best Practice Network in a variety of roles, including supervising and training student teachers, supervising Master's Research students and assessing National Professional Qualifications for School Leaders. Since 2021, Jacqueline has also worked successfully as a private tutor, supporting children with 11+ and 13+ exam preparation, English Language and Literature GCSEs.
