I have been a primary teacher for 25 years, most recently in the private sector. I was SENCo/Head of Learning Support for over 15 years and I believe that my SEND experience has made me a better teacher of all children, both neurotypical and neurodiverse. It is important to make a connection with a student, so that they feel emotionally safe and seen during lessons. Research shows that memory retention, focus, and motivation all increase when students feel happy. My lessons have a clear structure and a variety of activities to keep interest levels high, with games and movement breaks incorporated when needed. I love to invent different and personalised ways for children to memorise spellings, facts and methods. I can teach and support any subject up to 11+, including French.
Kathryn is a professional tutor with 25 years of teaching experience across the world (UK, UAE, Egypt, France and Japan). She spent 14 years as Head of Learning Support at Thomas’s Clapham, a top London preparatory school where she was also a member of the Senior Leadership Team. She worked closely with students, schools and families to find senior schools which fitted each individual child. She also prepared students for 11+ and 13+ exams, as well as teaching Phonics, Comprehension, Creative Writing, Social Skills and Maths to individuals and small groups from age 5 - 13. In addition to this, Kathyn can teach French to Year 6 as she specialised in this subject in her PGCE. Kathryn is a great believer in the power of creating a warm, empathetic space for children where they can learn to their full potential as well as tailoring every lesson to the child.
