I have been a primary school teacher for over 30 years, working in state schools across London. I ensure my lessons are pacy and involve a range of active learning tasks. I use Project-Based Learning projects to help transform students' interests into academic excellence and long-term skill development. I empower students through scaffolded instruction by transitioning from direct modelling to independent mastery. I keep students engaged through interactive checkpoints that break down complex topics into manageable chunks. My lessons conclude with an application challenge, turning new knowledge into a skill students can use straight away.

Experience

Layo brings over 30 years of London classroom experience directly to tutoring sessions. She previously served as a Senior Leader for Inclusion and a Subject Coordinator covering both STEM (Science) and Wellbeing (PSHE, PE , and Dance).Layo recently spearheaded a school-wide initiative to embed children’s rights into the curriculum, successfully securing the National Rights Respecting School Award (Bronze Level ) within 5 months. She is a versatile primary teacher with a comprehensive understanding of the National Curriculum across all Key Stages. Layo is skilled in adapting her teaching to meet the unique emotional and educational needs of each pupil. She is committed to making learning engaging through interactive, multisensory techniques that foster a lifelong love for learning. Layo has supported Year 2 pupils to navigate the KS1 SATs with confidence and ease. By creating a pressure-free learning environment, she has empowered pupils to showcase their full potential in Reading, Writing and Maths, ensuring they felt proud of their achievements. As a year 6 teacher, she worked with colleagues to deliver targeted booster sessions, which directly contributed to success in KS2 SATs.
