"I have been tutoring since 2017 and I teach Politics, History, Theology, Geography and Law, from the early prep years right through to degree level. My approach is built around the essay: I want students to leave a session able to hold an argument in their head, defend it, and see where it is weakest. I rarely lecture. Instead I ask questions, hand the student the pen, and get them explaining the material back to me, because I have found that a student who can teach a topic is a student who will not forget it under exam pressure. With younger children, the work looks different and I enjoy it just as much. I do a great deal of foundational work with pre-prep and prep age pupils: handwriting and presentation, reading comprehension, building vocabulary, and the first steps of writing a paragraph that actually answers the question. For 11+ and 13+ pupils I cover the humanities and English side of the syllabus alongside interview preparation and confidence building, and I make it playful where I can, because a nervous ten year old learns nothing. At GCSE, A Level and IB, I focus on source handling, structure and precision of language, and I mark work in detail so students can see exactly where marks are won and lost. I also teach undergraduate students and currently lecture Land Law to Graduate Diploma in Law students at City, University of London, so I am comfortable stretching the strongest candidates well beyond their syllabus. Alongside academic tuition I mentor Oxbridge applicants, and I coach sailing at university level, which keeps me honest about the fact that good coaching is mostly good listening. "

"I am a qualified teacher (QTS) with a PGCE from Homerton College, University of Cambridge, and almost 30 years of teaching and school leadership experience in both the UK and internationally. Throughout my career I have taught a wide range of humanities and English subjects across Key Stage 3, GCSE, IGCSE, AS & A Level and the International Baccalaureate, alongside leadership roles including Head of English, Headmaster, and Director of Professional Development. I believe every student learns best when they feel supported, challenged and encouraged to think independently. My lessons are engaging, well-structured and tailored to each learner's needs, combining high expectations with a positive and encouraging approach. Whether preparing for public examinations or building confidence in a subject, I focus on developing deep understanding rather than simply teaching to the test. I have extensive experience preparing students for GCSE, IGCSE, AS & A Level and IB examinations across multiple exam boards and particularly enjoy helping students who have lost confidence in a subject. My aim is to help every student achieve their academic potential while developing the skills, resilience and curiosity that will benefit them far beyond their examinations. "

"With over ten years' experience as a professional tutor, I have developed a range of pedagogical skills to both engage reluctant learners and challenge more advanced students. Critical and lateral thinking remain at the core of my lesson planning, with students encouraged not only to master curriculum content but also to develop their own independent thinking through textual, visual, historical, and contemporary analysis. In my lessons, I encourage my students to ask questions and celebrate their interests wherever possible, using topics and themes that excite them to foster engagement with their learning. I likewise tailor my lessons to each student's abilities and learning goals, ensuring that we build on their strengths while supporting their current level of development. With extensive experience supporting UK-based learners across a range of ages and abilities, I incorporate lesson activities that suit a variety of learning styles, from auditory to kinaesthetic. This helps ensure that every student can engage with the material in a way that best supports their learning. I also model new concepts, language structures, and behaviours clearly in each session, ensuring students have clear examples before applying these skills independently. Having worked with students from across South Asia, China, the Middle East, and Europe, I am also well versed in supporting students who require additional ESL support or are transitioning between different educational systems. This experience has given me a strong understanding of the academic, linguistic, and cultural transitions many international students face, allowing me to tailor my approach to their individual needs. Ultimately, my aim as a tutor is to help every student develop not only strong academic outcomes but also the confidence, curiosity, and independent thinking skills that will benefit them beyond the classroom!
