"I have been teaching History for 23 years, 17 of them as Head of History, and I have also served as Head of School. Over that time I have taught extensively across the independent and state sectors, and I am familiar with all the major examination boards. I taught GCSE with consistently strong exam results at St Catherine's, where I achieved a record of three consecutive years of 100% A*–B, at both GCSE and A Level. I believe History should be taught as a living, argued subject rather than a list of dates to memorise, and I encourage students to build their own historical judgement through evidence and debate. I enjoy tailoring my teaching to each student, and I am always keen to bring in wider reading and context to make the subject come alive."

"I am a qualified teacher (QTS) with a PGCE from Homerton College, University of Cambridge, and almost 30 years of teaching and school leadership experience in both the UK and internationally. Throughout my career I have taught a wide range of humanities and English subjects across Key Stage 3, GCSE, IGCSE, AS & A Level and the International Baccalaureate, alongside leadership roles including Head of English, Headmaster, and Director of Professional Development. I believe every student learns best when they feel supported, challenged and encouraged to think independently. My lessons are engaging, well-structured and tailored to each learner's needs, combining high expectations with a positive and encouraging approach. Whether preparing for public examinations or building confidence in a subject, I focus on developing deep understanding rather than simply teaching to the test. "With over ten years' experience as a professional tutor, I have developed a range of pedagogical skills to both engage reluctant learners and challenge more advanced students. Critical and lateral thinking remain at the core of my lesson planning, with students encouraged not only to master curriculum content but also to develop their own independent thinking through textual, visual, historical, and contemporary analysis. In my lessons, I encourage my students to ask questions and celebrate their interests wherever possible, using topics and themes that excite them to foster engagement with their learning. I likewise tailor my lessons to each student's abilities and learning goals, ensuring that we build on their strengths while supporting their current level of development. With extensive experience supporting UK-based learners across a range of ages and abilities, I incorporate lesson activities that suit a variety of learning styles, from auditory to kinaesthetic. This helps ensure that every student can engage with the material in a way that best supports their learning. I also model new concepts, language structures, and behaviours clearly in each session, ensuring students have clear examples before applying these skills independently. Having worked with students from across South Asia, China, the Middle East, and Europe, I am also well versed in supporting students who require additional ESL support or are transitioning between different educational systems.
