"I have been tutoring since 2017 and I teach Politics, History, Theology, Geography and Law, from the early prep years right through to degree level. My approach is built around the essay: I want students to leave a session able to hold an argument in their head, defend it, and see where it is weakest. I rarely lecture. Instead I ask questions, hand the student the pen, and get them explaining the material back to me, because I have found that a student who can teach a topic is a student who will not forget it under exam pressure. With younger children, the work looks different and I enjoy it just as much. I do a great deal of foundational work with pre-prep and prep age pupils: handwriting and presentation, reading comprehension, building vocabulary, and the first steps of writing a paragraph that actually answers the question. For 11+ and 13+ pupils I cover the humanities and English side of the syllabus alongside interview preparation and confidence building, and I make it playful where I can, because a nervous ten year old learns nothing. At GCSE, A Level and IB, I focus on source handling, structure and precision of language, and I mark work in detail so students can see exactly where marks are won and lost. I also teach undergraduate students and currently lecture Land Law to Graduate Diploma in Law students at City, University of London, so I am comfortable stretching the strongest candidates well beyond their syllabus. Alongside academic tuition I mentor Oxbridge applicants, and I coach sailing at university level, which keeps me honest about the fact that good coaching is mostly good listening. "

"I am a current UCL student studying History and Politics of the Americas, though my curiosity doesn't stop there - I’ve always loved crossing between subjects, having studied Philosophy, Biology and Chemistry at A Level alongside a humanities degree. I bring over four years of tutoring experience working with students across a whole range of ability levels, including those with additional learning needs, and I hold a Safeguarding Children Level 2 qualification. For me, tutoring isn't just about getting through a syllabus - I want my students to actually feel proud of what they've learnt and more confident in themselves along the way. I take the time to get to know how each student thinks and learns best, so lessons feel less like "extra school" and more like a space where they can ask questions freely and make real progress at their own pace. "I have been teaching History for 23 years, 17 of them as Head of History, and I have also served as Head of School. Over that time I have taught extensively across the independent and state sectors, and I am familiar with all the major examination boards. I taught GCSE with consistently strong exam results at St Catherine's, where I achieved a record of three consecutive years of 100% A*–B, at both GCSE and A Level. I believe History should be taught as a living, argued subject rather than a list of dates to memorise, and I encourage students to build their own historical judgement through evidence and debate. I enjoy tailoring my teaching to each student, and I am always keen to bring in wider reading and context to make the subject come alive."
